Filter Variations
Disk Filter
Filter element made from filter media processed into disk.
When using woven wire mesh, it is common to laminate multiple wire mesh layers with different specifications. Normally, it is often used with a rim to enhance sealing and handling properties, but filter in extruder for molten resin, etc., is sometimes used without a rim.
The rimmed filter used in spinning process is called pack filter, and in addition to disk, there are also donut shape and rectanglar shape.
As mentioned above, there are disk filters built into various manufacturing equipment and also there are those used for filtratin equipment such as Nutche filter. It is also used to rectify fluids flow, not filtration.
Rectanglar Filter
Filter element made from filter media processed into rectanglar.
Spinning process uses rectanglar rimmed filter depending on the type of nozzle.
It is also used by attaching it to ducts and fluid exits of rectanglar. It is also used to rectify fluids flow, not filtration.
Disk Filter
Filter element made of filter media processed into cylindar.
It is often used for filtration equipments. It is common to attach it to a partition plate in a filter container or sandwitch a filter flange with vessel flange.
There are several methods of mounting on the partition plate. Tighten a male screw attached to the filter barcket into a female screw of the plate. Attacheing O ring to the filter bracket and inserting it into the plate.Fixing the filter and the plate with bolts and nuts.
Since containers are manufactured exclusively for filtlation, it is easy to adjust usage conditions and filter characteristics. In order to increase the filtlation area, multiple filter elements may be installed in one container.
Because such a filter takes a thin and cylindrical shape, it is also called Cartridge filter, Tube filter, Candle filter, etc. Conversely, a large cylindrical filter is sometimes called a basket.
Leaf Filter
The shape is circular or rectanglar filter element, which is used by setting multiple sheets like leafs in a special filter container.
One sheet of circular or rectanglar filter has small fitration area, but leaf filters can filter in a large area by using multiple sheets in parallel. Each filter leaf is connected by a common pipe, and the solution that passes through each filter joins by a common pipe and is tranported to the next process.
Pleated Filter
Filter element made of pleateed filter media.
Filter shape can be disk, rectanglar and cylindrical. The pleats make the filtration area larger than the flat disk, rectanglar and cylindrical filter.
However, washing property may deteriorate by making it pleat-like. Depending on the filter media type and specifications, some items may not be pleated.

Conical Filter
Filter element made of filter media processed into conical, also called cone filter.
It is often used by fixing in pipes, and is also called temporary filter, temporary strainer, etc. It is difficult to make thin and long filter like a cylindrical filter, but it is small and has excellent washing and handling properties.
Strainer
Filter with relatively coarse mesh( bigger aperture size/filter rating ), is called strainer.
In general, about 100 to 150 μm of filter rating is the border, and those with larger filter rating are strainer and those with smaller ones are filter. In the case of cylindrical filter, basket type is widely used in strainger and cartridge type is widely used in filter.
For example, in woven wire mesh, if the filter rating is smaller than 100μm, the initial pressure drop will suddenly go up and the clogging will increase, so cartridges are often used to reduce filteration resistance as much as possible.
On the other hand, if the filter rating is large, the initial pressure drop is low, the clogging is minor issue, and it is easy to remove by washing, so basket type is popular.
